A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a charitable giving account maintained by a sponsoring charitable organization.
You make an irrevocable charitable contribution of cash, securities, or other eligible assets to the sponsoring organization. The sponsoring organization has legal control of those assets, while you generally retain advisory privileges that allow you to recommend grants to eligible charities over time.

Recommend

Flexible giving with room to be thoughtful
A donor-advised fund can help organize generosity, support multiple ministries, and make charitable decisions over time.
Give strategically
Set aside resources for charity and recommend eligible grants over time according to your sponsor's policies.
Potential tax benefits
If applicable, a contribution to a DAF may qualify for a charitable income-tax deduction, subject to current rules, limitations, and individual circumstances.
Give appreciated assets
Many DAF sponsors accept publicly traded securities and certain other appreciated assets. Tax treatment depends on the asset and your individual circumstances.
Simplify recordkeeping
Your sponsoring organization can provide centralized records for charitable contributions and grant activity.
Involve your family
Depending on the sponsor's policies, family members or successor advisors may participate in future charitable decisions.
Give privately when desired
Some DAF sponsoring organizations permit grants without publicly identifying the donor, subject to the sponsor's procedures.
A helpful tax reminder
Charitable tax treatment depends on factors including the type of asset contributed, holding period, adjusted gross income, applicable deduction limitations, whether you itemize deductions, and other individual circumstances. Tax laws may change. Please consult your qualified professional advisors.
Your DAF can help advance the gospel
You've already made generosity part of your story. A grant from your donor-advised fund can help extend gospel presence, support Alliance workers and ministries, strengthen churches, and help reach people who have little or no access to Jesus.
Whether your grant supports the Great Commission Fund or another eligible Alliance designation, your generosity can become part of a much bigger story—people knowing Jesus, churches being established, and gospel presence multiplying around the world.

Questions about giving through a DAF?
Here are answers to several questions donors commonly ask.
Can I recommend a DAF grant to The Alliance?
Generally, yes. The Christian and Missionary Alliance is a charitable organization that may receive grants from eligible donor-advised funds. Your sponsoring organization retains final approval over grant recommendations.
Can I designate my grant for a particular Alliance ministry?
Depending on the purpose and your sponsoring organization's procedures, you may be able to recommend a particular charitable designation. Contact our giving team if you would like help identifying appropriate designation language.
Will I receive another charitable deduction when my DAF sends a grant?
Generally, no. A potential charitable deduction is associated with a qualifying contribution made to the DAF sponsoring organization, rather than with a later grant recommendation from the DAF to another charity.
Can my family participate in our charitable giving?
Many DAF sponsors provide options for additional advisors or successor advisors. Available options vary by sponsoring organization, so review your provider's policies.
Can a DAF grant pay for event tickets or provide something back to me?
DAF grants are subject to special rules regarding benefits received by donors, donor advisors, and certain related persons. Check with your DAF sponsor and professional advisors before recommending a grant connected with an event, membership, tuition, or another benefit.
Is there a deadline for recommending grants?
A DAF generally permits charitable grant recommendations over time. Sponsoring organizations may have their own minimum activity requirements, distribution policies, fees, and other account rules.
